Interviewer: I
Employee: E
I: Hello, so good to finally get to talk to you properly
about your position here at Falcon International Pictures. As im sure you know
we have produced movies such as Halloween and we are very excited to hear what
you can offer us. So, I have reviewed your profile, tell me a bit about who you
are.
E: So, I am currently a member of the Production of
Christmas Sleigher, a slasher movie being released next year, my main role has
been the distribution aspect and gaining audience feedback to improve the
movie. I have spent countless hours engaging and conversing with the market, we
try and look at as wide a range as possible, so our expected primary audience,
the secondary audience and the people we wouldn’t have thought to have interest
in the movie. This all gives us a greater understanding of what our audience
may be and what they want.
I: So, whilst talking before, you mentioned using different
mediums to communicate to the audience and release unfinished rough cuts, can
you walk me through what you meant by this?
E: So, primarily I use a software called Microsoft teams to
interact, get feedback quickly and respond to it, Teams works as an instant
messenger but allows for large groups to discuss ideas and share projects, so
it is ideal to get feedback. Not only do we use Teams, we also try and use
social media to create hype around our film. This gets the film out there and
gets people to know about it. We use Instagram and Snapchat to release teasers,
ask for feedback and interact with a wider public group of fans, this once
again widens our reach.
I: Sounds brilliant, but how would you be able to bring that
here to us?
E: Well, seeing as this is a smaller distribution and
production company we would have to stay reasonable and see what is inside our
reach, to distribute a micro-budget movie is a huge financial risk as they are
normally social-realistic rather then the popular Americanised, stereotyped Hollywood
movie.
I: Ok, but what would you do if a movie couldn’t get
distribution?
E: If a movie can’t find distribution immediately, it’s not
necessarily a big problem. My first step would be to approach as many film
festivals as possible like London or torronto, Sundance and many other known
festivals that feature many large distributors. Even if this doesn’t work there
are still more options, approaching online streaming sites can be a great
option now, sites like amazon, hulu and Netflix all provide a platform for
smaller movies to be seen on. Whilst Netflix is harder to get on, amazon and
hulu can bring great chances to movies struggling for distribution.
I: sounds promising but what if that still isn’t enough?
E: Well for a production really struggling they can always
approach a financing company and try self distribution or even apply for a
government grant.
I: Brilliant, I am impressed with your level of knowledge, I
just have to watch this back and finalise a few details before getting back to
you about the position, you seem very promising and I hope to hear from you
soon, thanks.
E: thank you, goodbye
